FAQ:
What are the differences between three axis, four axis, and five axis machining centers?
A three-axis machining center can only perform complex operations such as milling, cutting, milling, boring, punching, and tapping on a single surface, which is perpendicular to the spindle. It is an entry-level machining center and is currently the most widely used. If it involves drilling, tapping, or milling other surfaces, there is no way to process them. Instead, after completing one surface, the product is replaced and clamped for processing.

A four axis machining center adds a rotating axis to the three axis foundation. The axis that rotates around the x-axis is called the a-axis, and the axis that rotates around the y-axis is called the b-axis. Multi face machining can be achieved through rotation, mainly by adding three faces at the same time, perpendicular to the main axis and two faces around the rotation axis. Four axis machining reduces clamping times compared to three axis machining, improving machining efficiency. The four axis machining center is an advanced model, but the market price is slightly higher than the three axis.

The five axis machining center adds two rotation axes on top of the three axes, which can process any surface other than the fixed surface of the workpiece. The number of clamping times is also the smallest, and the resulting product will have smaller tolerances and the highest accuracy due to the fewer clamping times.
